You need to protect your eyes from the blue light of screens, but don't know how to choose your pair of glasses? You are aware that screens tire your eyes and want to wear glasses, but you are not ready to sacrifice your look?
In this guide, NYS explains how to choose your frame so that, even behind tiles, you always have more style than your neighbor!
After all, don't they say that the eyes are the mirrors of the soul? It would be a shame not to give them the prettiest frame possible...!
This is the best way to choose the perfect pair of glasses! To find out what shape your face is, study it in front of a mirror. If this method doesn't work for you, take a selfie and, in an editing app, trace the outline of your face (without the ears). The shape will then appear more clearly to you.
You have a round face if it has curved lines, without any angles, and if it is as wide as it is long.
Round faces will opt for a thin frame with pronounced angles. These glasses models will break the roundness of their features by lengthening and refining their face. Their eyes will appear larger. If you want to emphasize your features, choose a frame with rounder shapes.
You have an oval face when it is longer than it is wide.
All frames will enhance an oval face! The only limits will be those imposed by your style and personality. FYI, round frames will tend to make you look younger, while rectangular glasses will give a more dynamic and assertive look to oval faces.
The face “points upwards”. Your forehead is narrower than the lower part of your face. Your cheeks and chin are more pronounced.
Your face is “pointing down.” Your forehead is wider than the bottom of your face (inverted triangle). You have long eyebrows.
The goal is to give the illusion of a wider forehead and draw the eye to the upper part of your face. To do this, choose brightly colored or patterned eyeglass frames.
Here, you need to try to "reduce" the top of your face. Try frames with lower edges that are wider than the upper edges. Avoid flashy colors. You can even try pierced frames! We definitely forget about butterfly shapes, thick frames and extravagant geometric shapes. To avoid reinforcing the "point" aspect of your face, leave to others the frames that would go below your cheekbones. On the other hand, we willingly linger on frames with round shapes. In both cases, NYS advises you to choose very light frames.
You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is broad. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.
The idea is to make your face appear shorter and to "rebalance the proportions." To help you do this, NYS suggests glasses with faded or contrasting frames that are "stretched" enough on the sides to widen your face. Frames with a low bridge will shorten slightly long noses. Another solution to give width to your pretty face: opt for oversized round or oval glasses, such as "cat's eye" or "butterfly."
You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is broad. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.
To give more "pep" to the shape of your face and bring out your personality, opt for bold geometric shapes! We will avoid square glasses, precisely to "break" the morphology of the face. If you prefer to soften your features, favor oval shapes and soft lines. To take care of your style, try thin frames and / or frames with rounded shapes. And to harmonize everything, make sure that your pair of glasses is less wide than your face.
You have a diamond or lozenge face when the vertical line – imaginary – that connects your eye to your jaw resembles the side of a lozenge. Your cheekbones are wide.
Go for geometric or oval frames. They will give the impression of reducing the distance between your temples. Don't be put off by frames that are wider than your cheekbones: they will suit you perfectly! As with rectangular faces, let yourself be seduced by "cat's eye" or butterfly shapes.
The problem with traditional opticians is that the colors they offer for a pair of glasses are often all-purpose. Unfortunately, these colors will not necessarily enhance blue eyes as well as brown eyes or green eyes. To choose your fashion accessory, the best practice is to identify the range of colors that will enhance you the most. This will depend on your eyes of course, but also on your skin and hair.
Do you have a small head? Opt for small-sized eyeglass frames, making sure that the width of your glasses is no greater than the widest part of your head.
Do you have a wide head? Then opt for frames that are wide too.
To make sure your eyebrows and glasses match, make sure the top of your frame falls just below your eyebrows. They contribute to your facial expression, so they should be visible! Also, if your eyebrows get "stuck" in the frame of your glasses, you risk losing all the class that characterizes you!
If you choose a frame with a curved topline, make sure it follows the line of your eyebrows. The secret is to match the shape of your eyebrows to the shape of your glasses as closely as possible. In practical terms, this means that if your eyebrows are straight, round lenses probably won't flatter you...
For people whose eyes are set far apart, NYS recommends wearing a frame with a dark bridge. This will make your eyes appear closer together. If, on the other hand, your eyes are already quite close together, opt for a light-colored and/or thin bridge.
Bridges with a very large surface area in contact with the skin give the illusion of shortening the nose. Short noses will prefer high bridges and lighter colors.
Your lifestyle can also influence your choice. Athletes will tend more towards lightweight models, while terrace aficionados or screen addicts will be able to allow themselves more freedom.
Note that all of these tips apply equally to choosing your sunglasses and your prescription glasses. However, if your prescription requires thick lenses, know that you will probably have fewer choices. Not all frames can support all lens thicknesses. To give you an example, progressive lenses require a "rising" frame.
